The Ogun State Sector Command of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) has launched a special yuletide operation to clamp down on reckless drivers and reduce road traffic crashes ahead of the festive season.
The sector command’s spokesperson, Afolabi Odunsi‑Oyewole, disclosed in a statement to journalists on Wednesday that the exercise was designed to help achieve the corps’ 2025 Corporate Strategic Goal 1 — a targeted 10 per cent reduction in road crashes through focused interventions.
Odunsi‑Oyewole explained that the operation, led by the State Sector Commander, Akinwunmi Fasakin, places special emphasis on tackling speeding, which has been identified as a major cause of road accidents in the state. “Speeding endangers the lives of motorists and other road users,” he said, noting that the campaign would run throughout the yuletide period.
During one of the enforcement activities along the Sagamu–Abeokuta Road, Fasakin and his team apprehended 16 drivers for speeding with the use of a laser radar gun. The offending vehicles were fitted with speed‑limiting devices, and the drivers were booked for traffic violations.
