LASEMA Debunks Fresh Alakija Building Collapse Reports as False

The Lagos State Emergency Management Agency on Thursday dismissed social media reports claiming that another building had collapsed in the Alakija area of Lagos, describing the information as false.

In a statement, LASEMA Permanent Secretary Dr. Olufemi Oke-Osanyintolu said the agency immediately deployed emergency personnel to investigate the reported incident but found no evidence of a building collapse.

“Following the receipt of the information, the agency immediately deployed personnel to assess the reported location. After a thorough sweep of the area, no evidence of a second building collapse was found,” the statement said.

Oke-Osanyintolu urged residents to verify information before sharing it, warning that false emergency reports could divert resources and delay responses to genuine emergencies.

“The circulation of false emergency reports diverts critical resources, dissipates operational efforts and may delay response to genuine emergencies where lives are at risk,” he said.

He encouraged residents to continue reporting emergencies through official channels, allowing first responders to verify incidents before information is widely circulated.

Oke-Osanyintolu reaffirmed the agency’s commitment to protecting lives and property through prompt and coordinated emergency response.

The clarification follows the collapse of a two-story building near Alakija Bus Stop in the Satellite Town area of Amuwo-Odofin Local Government Area, where nine people were killed and 27 others injured.

Emergency responders carried out a two-day rescue operation before recovering all victims trapped beneath the rubble.
