Ngige Storms APC Meeting, Signals Renewed Political interest

Former Minister of Labour and Employment, Dr Chris Ngige, made a shocking appearance at the All Progressives Congress (APC) caucus meeting that took place at the Presidential Villa, Abuja, on Wednesday night, igniting rumours about his political future.

Ngige, who has been quiet since leaving office in May 2023, arrived at the high-level meeting attended by President Bola Tinubu, Vice President Kashim Shettima, Senate President Godswill Akpabio, Speaker of the House of Representatives Tajudeen Abbas, APC governors, and other party leaders.

Though he did not address the media after the meeting, party sources noted that Ngige’s presence signalled a renewed interest in active politics and party affairs. The former governor of Anambra State and one-time senator had previously distanced himself from political events, citing a need for rest and reflection.

His attendance comes amid increasing political realignments ahead of the 2027 general elections, with the APC seeking to consolidate its hold across the Southeast, a region where the party has struggled to gain a strong foothold.

Some analysts believe Ngige’s involvement could help the ruling party make inroads in Anambra and beyond, especially with his political structure and experience in the region.

Party officials declined to comment on whether Ngige’s return was linked to any formal role in the party or government, but noted that the caucus meeting focused on strengthening internal cohesion, addressing national challenges, and preparing early for future elections.

The meeting was part of ongoing consultations aimed at stabilising the party and reinforcing its national leadership structure.
