Ekiti Doctor Dismissed Over Unauthorized Kidney Removal

Ekiti State government has fired a doctor for allegedly removing a patient’s kidneys without permission. The incident took place at a public hospital, causing public outrage.

Sources said the doctor performed the procedure on a patient admitted for another illness. The patient’s family became alarmed after discovering the missing kidneys during a follow-up. This prompted an immediate investigation by state health officials.

Health Commissioner Dr. Sunday Abegunde confirmed the doctor’s dismissal. He said the government would not tolerate such misconduct. “The doctor violated medical ethics and the law. We have taken swift action to prevent future cases,” he said.

The government plans to strengthen monitoring and security in all public hospitals. Officials aim to protect patients’ rights and ensure strict compliance with medical standards.

The patient is now receiving treatment and support from the hospital. Authorities are also checking if other patients were affected.

Human rights groups condemned the doctor’s actions and called for harsh punishment. They urged the government to improve safeguards for patients.

This case raises concerns about medical malpractice in Ekiti. The government faces pressure to restore public trust in healthcare. It assures residents it will deliver justice and enhance oversight in all medical facilities.
