The Enugu State Government has rejected claims that it ceded any community to neighbouring Kogi State, insisting that no part of its territory was surrendered or transferred to another state.
In a statement on Monday, the state’s Commissioner for Lands and Urban Development, Mr. Chidi Nwafor, described the rumour as false and misleading. He said Enugu remains committed to protecting the state’s territorial boundaries.
“We want to make it clear that Enugu State did not cede any community to Kogi. Our boundaries remain intact. We urge residents to ignore the misinformation circulating online,” Nwafor said.
The clarification followed widespread social media posts that suggested portions of the state had been handed over to Kogi in a boundary adjustment exercise. The posts caused anxiety among residents, particularly those in border communities.
Nwafor assured residents that the government has not entered into any agreement that affects the state’s territorial integrity. He said the rumour may have arisen from confusion over a long-standing boundary dispute involving Enugu and neighbouring states.
The commissioner appealed to the people to remain calm and not to entertain rumours. He urged them to rely on official government communication channels for accurate information.
