Former First Lady, Aisha Buhari, has advised President Bola Tinubu not to repeat the mistake of her husband, ex-President Muhammadu Buhari, by retaining underperforming aides in office.
Speaking at a public event in Abuja, Aisha emphasized that one of the major issues that slowed her husband’s administration was the continued retention of incompetent appointees. She noted that some officials under Buhari failed to deliver but stayed in office for years, weakening public trust in the government.
Aisha said Nigerians expect results, and President Tinubu must not hesitate to remove those who fall short. “One of the problems during Buhari’s time was keeping people who didn’t perform. That shouldn’t happen again,” she stated.
She added that the success of any government depends on the competence and integrity of its team. She urged Tinubu to prioritize merit, performance, and accountability in selecting and keeping officials.
The former First Lady also called for stronger collaboration between the government and citizens, especially women and youth. She said involving more women in leadership would improve governance and policy delivery.
Her comments sparked reactions across political circles, with many praising her for speaking boldly. Some analysts believe her message reflects growing public demand for efficient leadership and performance-driven appointments.
Aisha Buhari has been vocal on national issues in recent years. During her time as First Lady, she frequently criticized poor governance and misuse of power.
Her latest remarks are seen as a strong warning to the current administration to prioritize results over loyalty.
