Police Boost Security in Borno After Deadly Mosque Bombing

Following the tragic mosque bombing in Maiduguri, the Nigeria Police Force has deployed 1,000 additional personnel to Borno State. The move aims to strengthen security and prevent further attacks in the troubled region.

The Inspector General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, ordered the deployment after the suicide bombing claimed over 20 lives during early morning prayers. The attack, which occurred in Gwoza local government area, shocked residents and reignited concerns about terrorist resurgence in the Northeast.

Egbetokun said the officers would assist in intelligence gathering, patrol, and public safety. He assured residents that the police remained committed to restoring peace in the area. “We won’t relent. We are working with other security agencies to track down those behind this evil,” he stated.

The Force also deployed bomb disposal experts, counterterrorism units, and surveillance teams to sensitive areas across Borno. Authorities say these officers will support ongoing military operations and improve response times during emergencies.

Meanwhile, the Borno State Government has condemned the attack and promised support for affected families. Governor Babagana Zulum urged security agencies to tighten surveillance around worship centres, markets, and schools.

Civil society groups and religious leaders also called for stronger community vigilance and better intelligence-sharing. Many believe improved cooperation between residents and security operatives will help avert future incidents.

This latest deployment adds to the growing efforts by security agencies to stabilize the North-East amid renewed threats from insurgents. Police authorities have urged the public to remain alert and report suspicious activities.
