FG Acknowledges US Anti-Terror Strikes, Vows Continued Cooperation

The Federal Government have confirmed that the United States carried out airstrikes on terrorist targets in Nigeria. It explained that the operations were based on intelligence-sharing between both countries.

Speaking to journalists in Abuja, the Minister of Information, Mohammed Idris, said the strikes were part of long-standing counterterrorism cooperation between Nigeria and the U.S. He said Nigerian security agencies worked closely with their American counterparts to track and neutralise threats.

“These operations were guided by accurate intelligence,” Idris said. “They targeted terrorist elements that posed serious risks to national and regional security.”

He stressed that Nigeria remains committed to partnerships that enhance its security operations. He also noted that the country would never allow foreign intervention without proper coordination and respect for sovereignty.

The confirmation follows former U.S. President Donald Trump’s recent claim that his administration launched “numerous deadly strikes” against terrorists in Nigeria. Trump’s statement, made during a political rally, sparked widespread debate about the extent of foreign military involvement in Nigeria’s internal security.

Although the Nigerian military previously avoided commenting on foreign operations, government officials now acknowledge that some missions were executed with Nigerian approval and support.

Security analysts have urged the government to improve transparency around such collaborations. They argue that citizens deserve to know how foreign powers operate within the country’s borders.

Idris assured Nigerians that all operations followed global protocols and that no civilian harm occurred during the missions.

The government pledged to continue using every available tool to fight terrorism.
