Vice President Kashim Shettima has assured Nigerians that the federal government is committed to ending the violence threatening lives and peace across the country.
Reacting to the recent suicide bombing in Maiduguri, Borno State, which claimed several lives, Shettima described the incident as tragic and unacceptable. He expressed deep sorrow over the attack, which targeted worshippers during a religious gathering, and extended his condolences to the affected families.
“The loss of innocent lives is heartbreaking,” he said. “We won’t rest until peace is fully restored. We are working with security agencies to stop these evil acts.”
Shettima noted that the government is not only strengthening military efforts but also addressing the root causes of insecurity, including poverty, unemployment, and extremism. He assured residents of Borno and other affected states that the federal government remains focused on their safety and welfare.
“We understand the pain our people are going through. That’s why we are taking both short and long-term steps to end terrorism,” he said.
He called on citizens to support security operations by sharing useful information and promoting unity, regardless of religious or ethnic differences. “Terrorism thrives on fear and division. But with collective resolve, we can defeat it,” he added.
The Vice President also praised the resilience of Borno residents and promised that the government would not abandon them in their time of need.
Security agencies have since intensified patrols and intelligence efforts in the region to prevent further attacks.
