Three people sustained injuries in a crash that occurred on Boxing Day along the Third Mainland Bridge in Lagos.
The Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) confirmed the incident in a statement . The accident happened around 11:15 a.m. and involved a Toyota Camry with registration number EPE 583 GD.
According to LASTMA spokesperson Adebayo Taofiq, the crash was caused by excessive speeding and loss of control. The car somersaulted and landed in the middle of the bridge, blocking traffic flow for some time.
“Our officials quickly responded and rescued three victims from the vehicle,” Taofiq said. “They suffered varying degrees of injury and were taken to the hospital by LASAMBUS for urgent medical attention.”
He noted that the driver was among those injured, while no deaths were recorded.
LASTMA officers worked with the police and emergency responders to manage the scene, clear the wreckage, and restore traffic flow.
Taofiq urged motorists to avoid reckless driving, especially during festive periods when traffic is heavy. He also warned drivers against speeding and using phones while driving.
“The safety of everyone on the road depends on the decisions of each driver,” he added. “We advise the public to always obey traffic rules.”
The accident caused a brief traffic buildup on the bridge, but normal movement resumed after officials towed the vehicle off the road.
LASTMA reminded residents to report accidents or traffic emergencies through its hotlines for quicker response and rescue.
