Police in Oyo State have arrested a suspected armed robber and recovered a stolen motorcycle during a recent operation in the Atiba area of the state.
The state Police Public Relations Officer, SP Adewale Osifeso, confirmed the arrest in a statement . He said officers acted on a tip-off and tracked the suspect to his hideout, where he was apprehended without resistance.
According to Osifeso, the suspect and an accomplice had earlier robbed a commercial motorcyclist in the Oyo town area. They allegedly posed as passengers, lured the rider to a quiet location, and attacked him with weapons before fleeing with his motorcycle.
The police began a search immediately after the victim reported the incident. The officers eventually located the suspect while he was attempting to sell the stolen bike.
“The arrested suspect is now in custody, and efforts are ongoing to apprehend his fleeing accomplice,” Osifeso stated.
He added that the recovered motorcycle has been returned to its rightful owner, who has identified it.
Residents of the community praised the police for their quick response and urged them to remain vigilant, especially during the holiday season. They called for stronger patrols in the area to prevent further criminal activities.
Osifeso assured the public that the police would not relent in their efforts to curb crime and maintain peace in the state. He urged citizens to continue providing useful information to aid the fight against robbery and other criminal acts.
