A prominent Yoruba socio-cultural group, Yoruba Council Worldwide, has declared support for the recent joint military strikes by the United States and Nigeria targeting terrorist hideouts in the country. The group praised the move as a bold step in tackling insecurity across the northern region and other volatile areas.
In a statement signed by its President, Aare Oba Oladotun Hassan, the group urged the Federal Government not to limit its international security alliances to the US alone. It advised President Bola Tinubu to extend military cooperation to other global powers such as Russia, Israel, and France for a more robust counter-terrorism strategy.
The Yoruba Council described the strikes as a welcome development and a sign of renewed intelligence sharing and defense coordination between Nigeria and its allies. It argued that insecurity has stifled national development, destroyed communities, and displaced millions, stressing the need for more decisive actions.
Hassan noted that building strategic partnerships with technologically advanced countries would help Nigeria upgrade its defense systems, improve surveillance, and train local forces effectively.
The group also called on the government to ensure accountability and civilian safety in the course of such operations. It warned against human rights violations and urged the military to operate within legal and humanitarian standards.
The Yoruba Council reaffirmed its commitment to national unity and security, urging Nigerians to support the government’s efforts to defeat terrorism and restore peace across the country.
