The Ogun State Government has confirmed that British-Nigerian boxer Anthony Joshua is recuperating well after surviving a car accident in the state.
The state Commissioner for Health, Dr. Tomi Coker, gave the assurance on Wednesday in Abeokuta. She said Joshua sustained only minor injuries and is responding positively to medical care. According to her, doctors discharged him shortly after examination and treatment at a private facility in the state.
Coker stated, “We are grateful that Anthony Joshua didn’t sustain serious injuries. He is stable and recovering well. His safety remains a priority, and we’re monitoring the situation.”
The boxer was reportedly involved in the accident on the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway while traveling with his entourage. Although the vehicle suffered considerable damage, no fatalities or life-threatening injuries occurred.
Governor Dapo Abiodun also reached out to Joshua following the incident. He expressed relief over the boxer’s condition and thanked emergency responders for their swift action.
“The Ogun State Government stands with Anthony Joshua and wishes him a quick recovery. We’re proud of him as a global sports ambassador,” the governor said in a statement.
The accident has drawn reactions from fans and the sports community, with many expressing concern and wishing him well. Joshua, who visits Nigeria frequently, has strong ties to Ogun State, where his family hails from.
Officials have promised a thorough investigation into the incident to ensure road safety for both residents and visitors.
