Umahi says Southeast won’t repeat 2023 election mistake in 2027

Minister of Works, David Umahi, has declared that the Southeast region will not repeat what he described as the political error of 2023 in the 2027 general elections. Speaking during a stakeholders’ meeting in Abakaliki, Ebonyi State, Umahi urged political leaders in the region to work together and make strategic decisions that align with the people’s interests.

He said the region must learn from its past mistakes and ensure it is not left behind in the national power arrangement. “We must stop isolating ourselves politically. In 2023, some choices did not reflect strategic thinking. In 2027, we will not make that mistake again,” he said.

Umahi stressed the need for unity, urging Southeast leaders to avoid divisive politics and personal interests. He also called for support for President Bola Tinubu, describing his leadership as inclusive and responsive. According to him, aligning with the centre would bring more development and security to the region.

The Minister also appealed to political stakeholders to focus on infrastructure and economic development rather than power struggles. He noted that the Southeast had benefitted from Tinubu’s administration through federal appointments and ongoing road projects.

He urged young voters to participate actively and make informed choices ahead of 2027. “We must be deliberate in our next steps. The future of the Southeast depends on the decisions we make today,” he added.

The meeting ended with a resolution to foster unity and build a stronger political front ahead of the next election cycle.
