DStv Subscribers Get Relief as Canal+ Secures Warner Bros Deal

DStv subscribers can now breathe a sigh of relief following a new content deal between Canal+ and Warner Bros. Discovery, which ensures the return of several popular channels and shows to the platform.

The agreement, announced on Monday, restores access to entertainment favourites like Cartoon Network, CNN, Discovery Channel, and Warner TV across Sub-Saharan Africa. The deal comes weeks after DStv parent company MultiChoice, which is partly owned by Canal+, dropped Warner Bros. channels due to failed contract negotiations.

Subscribers had expressed frustration over the loss, especially families with children who rely on channels like Cartoon Network. Others were disappointed by the removal of CNN and other international news and documentary channels.

With the new partnership in place, Canal+ says DStv viewers will once again enjoy premium programming from Warner Bros., including HBO series, kids’ shows, and reality content. The company described the agreement as a win for African audiences who deserve uninterrupted access to global content.

Industry analysts see the move as strategic for Canal+, which recently increased its stake in MultiChoice and aims to expand its influence in Africa’s media market. Reinstating Warner Bros. content could help boost DStv’s subscriber confidence amid rising competition from streaming platforms.

Many subscribers welcomed the news online, calling for better communication and more stable partnerships to avoid future disruptions. While full details of the agreement remain undisclosed, the return of beloved content is already being celebrated as a positive start to the new year.
