Plateau State Governor, Caleb Mutfwang, has officially resigned from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and joined the All Progressives Congress (APC).
Mutfwang made the move public on Saturday during a low-key ceremony at the APC state secretariat in Jos, where he received his party membership card from local party officials.
The governor said his decision to join the APC was based on the need to align Plateau State with the federal government for better development opportunities. He stated that after deep consultations with political stakeholders and the people of the state, he realised that the APC offers a more stable platform to achieve his administration’s goals.
“This is about Plateau’s future, not personal ambition,” Mutfwang said. “I believe working with President Bola Tinubu’s government will bring more progress to our people.”
Mutfwang thanked PDP members who supported him over the years and urged them to understand his decision. He also called on APC members in the state to welcome him and work together for the state’s development.
State APC Chairman, Rufus Bature, who welcomed Mutfwang, described the governor’s defection as a major boost for the party ahead of the 2027 elections. He assured Mutfwang of the party’s full support and cooperation.
The governor’s defection ends months of speculation following political tensions in the state. It also marks a significant shift in the Plateau political landscape, with many of his loyalists expected to follow suit in the coming days.
