Nigerian military air strikes have killed 23 fleeing bandits involved in a recent attack on Shanono Local Government Area in Kano State.
The bandits had stormed the area days earlier, causing panic among residents and clashing with local security forces. After the ground assault, intelligence reports tracked their movement as they attempted to escape into nearby forest zones.
Acting on the information, the Nigerian Air Force launched coordinated strikes, targeting the hideouts and escape routes of the assailants. The operation, carried out under the joint security task force, successfully neutralised 23 of the armed men.
A senior military official said the bandits were intercepted around the Kano-Kaduna forest corridor. “The precision strikes were based on credible intel. We tracked their movements after the Kano operation,” he said.
The Defence Headquarters confirmed the success of the mission and reassured Nigerians that security forces remain committed to protecting lives and restoring peace in troubled regions.
Local sources reported improved calm in Shanono following the operation. Many residents have praised the military response but called for increased patrols and permanent security presence in vulnerable areas.
Kano State Government also commended the military, saying the strike sends a strong message to criminal elements. It urged residents to continue supporting security efforts by reporting suspicious activities.
This latest operation forms part of ongoing military campaigns targeting banditry and terrorism across the northwest, as authorities step up efforts to secure rural communities.
