Dangote Refinery denies shutdown claims, says 50m litres of Petrol produced daily

Dangote Petroleum Refinery has refuted reports suggesting a production shutdown, affirming that it continues to produce up to 50 million litres of Premium Motor Spirit (PMS) daily. In a statement on January 5, the refinery clarified that operations remain stable and uninterrupted, with sufficient stock to meet national demand.

The refinery emphasized that routine maintenance on specific units does not equate to a complete shutdown, thanks to its integrated design. While maintenance may occur on units like the Crude Distillation Unit (CDU) and Residual Fluid Catalytic Cracking (RFCC), other critical units such as the Naphtha Hydrotreater, Continuous Catalyst Regeneration (CCR) Reformer, and Hydrocracker continue to operate, producing PMS, diesel, and jet fuel.

On January 4, the refinery produced 50 million litres of PMS and evacuated 48 million litres through its gantry. It maintains an ex-gantry price of ₦699 per litre and encourages marketers and bulk consumers to patronize locally refined products, which are often more affordable and of higher quality than imports.

The refinery accused fuel importers of disseminating false shutdown claims to justify pump price hikes, arguing that such actions are detrimental to national interests. It warned that without domestic refining, petrol prices could soar to ₦1,400 per litre in a subsidy-free environment.

Reaffirming its commitment to energy security and market stability, Dangote Refinery urged stakeholders to disregard misleading reports and rely on verified information from credible sources.
