Iran Warns of Retaliation Against U.S. Military and Shipping if Attacked

Iran has issued a stern warning that it would target U.S. military bases and shipping centers, as well as Israel, if the United States launches a military attack amid ongoing protests within the country.

Parliament Speaker Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf declared that in the event of a U.S. strike, both “the occupied territory”—a term Iran uses for Israel—and U.S. military and shipping centers would be considered legitimate targets. His remarks were broadcast during a parliamentary session on Sunday, reflecting heightened tensions as nationwide demonstrations continue to challenge the Iranian government.

The protests, which began in late December due to economic grievances, have escalated into widespread unrest, with at least 116 people reported dead and over 2,600 detained, according to the Human Rights Activists News Agency. Iranian authorities have accused the U.S. and Israel of instigating the turmoil.

In response to the unrest, President Donald Trump has expressed support for the Iranian protesters and warned of potential military action if the Iranian regime continues its crackdown. Iran’s leadership has countered with threats of retaliation, emphasizing that any U.S. aggression would be met with force.

As the situation intensifies, regional actors, including Israel, are reportedly on high alert, preparing for possible escalations. The international community watches closely, concerned that the internal strife in Iran could spill over into broader regional conflict.
