Where’s our President?  —  Obi questions Tinubu’s whereabouts

Labour Party’s 2023 presidential candidate Peter Obi on Monday questioned the whereabouts of President Bola Tinubu, urging the Presidency to clarify his location amid growing public speculation.

Obi, speaking through his spokesperson, Yunusa Tanko, said Nigerians deserve transparency regarding their leader’s activities, especially during critical national moments.

“There’s too much secrecy surrounding the President’s movements,” Obi said. “In a democratic country, citizens have a right to know where their president is.”

Rumors have swirled on social media in recent days over Tinubu’s absence from public events, prompting concerns about his health and ability to govern. The Presidency has not released an official statement confirming his location.

Obi criticized what he called the government’s pattern of operating in silence. “This is not the kind of leadership Nigeria needs right now,” he said. “There must be accountability and openness.”

He also referenced the administration’s silence on pressing economic and security issues, calling for more visible leadership during what he described as a challenging time for the country.

Presidential aides did not immediately respond to requests for comment.

Tinubu, who took office in May 2023, has faced mounting criticism over inflation, insecurity, and transparency in governance. Calls for frequent public updates on his health and movements have grown louder since his return from a medical trip earlier last year.

Obi urged Nigerians to continue demanding better from their leaders, saying, “Democracy thrives on transparency, not mystery.”
