The Taraba State Government has warned residents to be vigilant against fraudsters posing as government officials to extort money and obtain personal information.
In a statement issued on Friday in Jalingo, the state capital, the government said it had received reports of individuals claiming to represent various ministries, departments and agencies while demanding payments for fake contracts, employment slots and government programmes.
The government urged the public to disregard such approaches, stressing that it does not solicit funds or sensitive information from citizens through unofficial channels.
Officials advised residents to verify any claims through the appropriate offices and to report suspicious activities to security agencies. The government said it is working with law enforcement to identify and prosecute those involved.
Taraba State is one of Nigeria’s 36 states and is located in northeastern Nigeria.
