Ogun State Police have taken a suspect into custody as part of their investigation into the death of Afro-Fuji singer Adesina Afeez, popularly known as Destiny Boy.
In a statement on Monday, the police said the case has been handed over to the State Criminal Investigation Department’s Homicide Section to conduct a thorough probe into the circumstances surrounding the 22-year-old musician’s passing. One person is currently in custody as detectives continue their inquiries.
News of Destiny Boy’s death surfaced on Sunday after troubling clips showing his body being taken to a mortuary circulated widely on social media, prompting shock and speculation about what led to his sudden demise.
While the police have not yet disclosed details about the suspect or what role they may have played, an associate of the late singer later shared a separate video suggesting that Destiny Boy had been struggling with an undisclosed health issue before his death.
Born Afeez Adeshina, Destiny Boy rose to prominence blending Fuji rhythms with contemporary sounds and was well known for his energetic performances and creative covers. He also welcomed his first child with his partner, Iremide, in November 2024.
Authorities say they will provide further updates as the investigation unfolds.
