Lagos fire outbreak destroys shopping complex, no casualties recorded

A fire outbreak destroyed a shopping complex in Lagos, Nigeria’s commercial hub, but no casualties were recorded, emergency officials said.

The blaze, which broke out late Tuesday, razed several shops and goods before firefighters brought it under control. The cause of the fire was not immediately known, though preliminary investigations are underway.

The Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service said its personnel responded promptly to distress calls and worked to prevent the fire from spreading to nearby buildings.

Eyewitnesses said traders and residents scrambled to salvage goods as flames engulfed parts of the complex, while thick smoke rose into the night sky.

Authorities said an assessment of the damage would be conducted, adding that shop owners have been advised to comply with fire safety regulations to prevent future incidents.
