FG says reforms will ensure access to quality education

Nigeria’s federal government says ongoing reforms in the education sector are aimed at expanding access to quality learning and improving outcomes across all levels of schooling.

Officials said the reforms focus on strengthening basic education, upgrading infrastructure, training teachers and aligning curricula with national development needs. The measures are also intended to reduce the number of out-of-school children and address disparities between regions.

In a statement on Tuesday, the Federal Government of Nigeria said improved funding, better governance and stronger monitoring mechanisms are central to the reforms, alongside partnerships with state governments and development agencies.

The government said it is prioritizing skills acquisition and digital literacy to better prepare students for the labor market, while expanding access to education for girls and vulnerable groups.

Nigeria has one of the world’s largest populations of out-of-school children, particularly in the north, a challenge authorities say the reforms are designed to confront. Officials said implementation is ongoing and pledged continued engagement with stakeholders to ensure measurable improvements.
