Plateau State Gov. Caleb Mutfwang has condemned fresh attacks in several communities across the state, describing the killings as senseless and unacceptable and vowing to bring the perpetrators to justice.
Mutfwang said the latest violence, which left several people dead and homes destroyed, underscores the urgent need for stronger security measures to protect rural communities that have repeatedly come under attack.
In a statement issued on Tuesday, the governor expressed anger over what he called the persistence of coordinated assaults despite ongoing security operations. He said the state government is working with federal authorities and security agencies to track down those responsible.
“The continued loss of innocent lives is painful and unacceptable,” Mutfwang said, adding that the attacks threaten peaceful coexistence and development in the state.
He also called on residents to remain calm and avoid reprisals, urging community leaders to cooperate with security agencies by providing credible information.
Plateau, in Nigeria’s north-central region, has long experienced communal violence often linked to disputes over land, resources and identity. Authorities say investigations into the latest incidents are ongoing, while security patrols have been reinforced in affected areas.
