The Nigeria Extractive Industries Transparency Initiative said Friday it is strengthening cooperation with the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission and the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission to boost accountability in Nigeria’s oil, gas and mining sectors.
Nigeria Extractive Industries Transparency Initiative, known as NEITI, said the renewed commitment followed separate courtesy visits to the headquarters of the two anti-graft agencies.
In a statement issued by NEITI Director of Communications and Stakeholder Management Obiageli Onuorah, the agency said it had reaffirmed its resolve to deepen collaboration with the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission and the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission to curb corruption and revenue leakages in the extractive industries.
NEITI Executive Secretary Musa Sarkin Adar said closer inter-agency cooperation was critical to ensuring that transparency disclosures translate into enforcement actions, remediation of audit findings and tangible outcomes.
Since assuming office, Adar said, his leadership has prioritized engagement with institutions whose statutory mandates align with NEITI’s transparency and accountability goals. He described the EFCC and ICPC as key partners in converting NEITI audit reports into measurable results.
“This partnership is not just about disclosure. It is about accountability, corrective actions and measurable impact,” Adar said. “As Nigeria prepares for the 2026 EITI Validation, our collective responsibility is to demonstrate that transparency leads to real change.”
Adar said Nigeria’s upcoming assessment under the Extractive Industries Transparency Initiative would evaluate the country’s implementation of the 2023 EITI Standard across transparency, stakeholder engagement, and outcomes and impact.
He added that the validation would be a national test of Nigeria’s commitment to openness in managing natural resources, and called for sustained cooperation under existing memoranda of understanding, including intelligence sharing, technical collaboration and coordinated follow-up on cases arising from NEITI audits.
