Military investigation ends: DHQ moves to arraign alleged coup plotters

The Defence Headquarters (DHQ) says investigations into an alleged coup plot within the military have been concluded, paving the way for the arraignment of indicted officers before a military court.

The Director of Defence Information, Brig. Gen. Tukur Gusau, said in a statement that the probe uncovered serious breaches of military regulations and acts of indiscipline linked to the alleged plot. He said the affected officers would be charged in line with the Armed Forces Act.

Gusau said the investigation followed the arrest of several officers in October 2025 after intelligence reports suggested plans capable of undermining military authority and national security. He did not disclose the exact date the trial would begin.

According to the DHQ, due process was observed throughout the investigation, and the rights of the accused officers were respected. The military said it remained committed to professionalism, discipline and loyalty to the constitution.

Sources within the military said the officers would be tried by a general court martial, with proceedings expected to commence once all legal and administrative requirements are completed.

The DHQ warned that the Armed Forces would not tolerate acts capable of threatening stability, stressing that it would continue to take firm action against misconduct at all levels.
