A joint security team rescued 10 kidnapped victims after a gun battle with suspected kidnappers and bandits in Nigeria’s Niger State, police said Monday.
The clash occurred Sunday morning in Mai-Laka village in Mariga local government area, according to police spokesman Wasiu Abiodun.
Abiodun said security personnel intercepted the suspects along the Bangi–Kotonkoro road and engaged them in a firefight, forcing the attackers to flee and abandon some of their captives.
“The abductors abandoned some kidnapped victims and fled from the scene,” Abiodun said, adding that the rescued victims were from Yauri, Dusai, Dogon-Fadama and Yabawa villages.
Security forces also recovered motorcycles believed to belong to the suspects, he said.
Abiodun said clearance operations were ongoing and surveillance had been intensified to flush out remaining bandits and ensure the safety of residents in the affected communities.
