Dangote Cement vows to make Africa self-sufficient

Dangote Cement Plc says it is stepping up investments across Africa to make the continent self-sufficient in cement production and reduce dependence on imported building materials.

Speaking during a briefing on the company’s expansion plans, Group Managing Director Arvind Pathak said Dangote Cement is accelerating projects in several African markets to close supply gaps and support growing infrastructure demand.

“Our vision is to ensure Africa produces enough cement to meet its own needs,” Pathak said, adding that expansion, operational efficiency and an expanded distribution network are central to the company’s strategy.

Pathak said Dangote Cement, Africa’s largest cement producer, is targeting an annual production capacity of 90 million metric tons across the continent by 2030.

He said the company has already eliminated Nigeria’s reliance on imported cement, turning the country into a net exporter supplying several neighboring nations.

Dangote Cement operates integrated plants, grinding facilities and distribution hubs in multiple African countries. Ongoing projects include plant upgrades, capacity expansion and the adoption of energy-efficient technologies aimed at reducing costs and lowering carbon emissions.

Company founder and President Aliko Dangote said cement self-sufficiency is both an economic necessity and a responsibility for Africa.

“Africa has no reason to depend on cement imports,” Dangote said. “We have the raw materials and the talent to meet our own needs.”

He said the company’s investments are designed to support industrialization, create jobs and promote sustainable development across the continent.

Demand for cement continues to rise as African countries invest in highways, bridges, housing and other infrastructure. Dangote Cement said its expansion strategy is expected to help stabilize supply and prices while improving construction reliability.

Dangote Cement Plc is Africa’s largest cement producer, operating in several African countries and continuing to expand through investment, innovation and sustainability initiatives.
