Nigeria’s electoral commission said Friday that the country will hold presidential and National Assembly elections on Feb. 20, 2027, followed by governorship and state House of Assembly elections on March 6, 2027.
Chairman Prof. Joash Amupitan of the Independent National Electoral Commission announced the timetable at a news conference in Abuja.
The announcement comes amid concerns over delays in the passage of amendments to Nigeria’s Electoral Act, which is currently before the National Assembly.
The commission said it had completed work on the election timetable and schedule of activities despite the pending legislation. On Feb. 4, INEC indicated it had submitted the timetable to lawmakers but cautioned that aspects of the schedule could be adjusted depending on when the amended Electoral Act is passed.
