The Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission confirmed on Wednesday that former Kaduna state governor Nasir El-Rufai is in its custody amid an ongoing investigation.
The statement, issued just before midnight and signed by the commission’s spokesperson J. Okor Odey, did not provide details about the nature of the investigation or how long El-Rufai would remain in custody.
“El-Rufai is in the custody of the commission in connection with investigations,” Odey said.
The development comes amid inquiries into alleged financial transactions and projects executed during El-Rufai’s tenure as governor from 2015 to 2023. He was previously questioned by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission over matters reportedly linked to financial dealings valued at about 432 billion naira, sources said.
No formal details about the EFCC inquiry have been released, but sources indicated it is part of a broader anti-corruption review.
