The U.S. Embassy in Nigeria has temporarily closed its Abuja office for routine business following concerns over possible protests in the Federal Capital Territory.
In a notice posted Thursday on its official X account, the embassy said the move was a precautionary measure due to the potential for demonstrations in Abuja.
The embassy said routine services would remain suspended until Monday, March 9, 2026.
It added that visa appointments scheduled for March 4 and March 5, as well as American Citizen Services (ACS) appointments set for March 5, have been rescheduled for next week.
Affected visa applicants were advised to check their email inboxes or log in to their AVITS accounts for updated appointment dates.
Applicants seeking American Citizen Services were also urged to check their email messages for details of their rescheduled appointments.
The embassy said applicants who do not see a new appointment date should contact the consular section through the Visa Navigator platform for assistance.
It also advised members of the public to monitor its official website and social media channels for further updates.
