Security personnel at the Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) have foiled an armed robbery attempt at its Ogbomoso Transmission Substation, officials said.
Transmission Company of Nigeria said the incident occurred in the early hours of Sunday after armed men gained access to the facility by scaling the perimeter fence.
TCN General Manager, Public Affairs, Ndidi Mbah, said in a statement issued in Abuja on Tuesday that preliminary findings showed the intruders breached the substation between late Saturday night and early Sunday morning.
“The intruders further proceeded to the gate house in an attempt to attack and deactivate the vigilante personnel on duty,” Mbah said.
She said the security team on duty responded by firing warning shots, forcing the attackers to retreat.
“During their escape, the suspects abandoned some of their tools and personal items near the fence wall,” she said, adding that early inspection revealed suspected equipment used in the attempted attack, along with traces of blood and footprints.
Mbah said a further search of the area after daylight led to the recovery of a bag containing additional tools believed to belong to the attackers.
According to her, the incident has been reported to relevant security agencies, which are now investigating the attack.
She confirmed that no staff member or security personnel was injured during the incident.
TCN said it remains committed to protecting its infrastructure and ensuring the safety of its personnel and facilities nationwide.
