FCT Police Deploy Bomb Disposal Teams Ahead of 2026 Eid-el-Kabir Celebrations

The Federal Capital Territory Police Command has deployed Explosive Ordnance Disposal teams to worship centres, recreational facilities and other public venues ahead of the 2026 Eid-el-Kabir celebrations.

The deployment is part of heightened security measures introduced by the command to ensure a peaceful and hitch-free celebration across the FCT.

Police Public Relations Officer Josephine Adeh said in a statement Tuesday that Commissioner of Police Ahmed Sanusi had ordered intensified security operations across the territory.

She said the command, in collaboration with the military, Department of State Services, Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, Federal Road Safety Corps and the Nigerian Immigration Service, had activated a joint security operation code-named “Operation Sweep FCT.”

According to Adeh, the operation has been divided into strategic sectors across the territory, with personnel carrying out continuous patrols and coordinated operations aimed at preventing and responding to criminal activity.

“As part of the command’s preventive security strategy, Explosive Ordnance Disposal teams have also been directed to conduct proactive sweeps of designated worship centres, recreational facilities and other venues expected to host large gatherings,” the statement said.

The command also said intelligence-led operations and raids on identified flashpoints and locations linked to illicit drug activities had been ordered, with officers directed to carry out duties professionally and within the law.

Sanusi held a virtual meeting with divisional police officers and crime officers across the command, urging them to remain vigilant before, during and after the celebrations.

He called for increased visibility policing, quick response to distress calls and stronger community engagement, while warning that misconduct would not be tolerated.

The FCT Police Command urged residents to remain law-abiding and security-conscious and to report suspicious activity through emergency lines.
