A tricycle rider identified as IK is on the run after allegedly beating his partner to death following a domestic dispute in Ogbogoro community in Obio/Akpor Local Government Area of Rivers State, police and residents said.
Police said the suspect fled after abandoning the woman’s body and their two children inside a tricycle along CPM Street on Tuesday.
A resident, identified as Senibo, said neighbors were alerted after discovering the lifeless body of the woman and the children inside the parked tricycle.
“It was around 7 a.m. when residents were alerted to a disturbing scene,” he said. “Two young female children, both under the age of six, and the lifeless body of an adult woman were found inside a stationary tricycle.”
He said officers from the Ozuoba Police Division were called to the scene and later interviewed the couple’s older child, who allegedly said the suspect attacked the woman during a stay at a guest house the previous night.
According to the account, the suspect allegedly drove the victims out of the guest house after realizing the woman was unresponsive, abandoned them in the tricycle and fled.
Police said the victim’s sister later identified the body and that the remains were taken to a morgue for preservation and investigation.
The children have since been placed in the care of a relative.
Rivers State Police Command spokesperson Grace Iringe-Koko confirmed the incident, saying an investigation is underway to apprehend the suspect.
Police said officers responded after receiving a distress call from a passerby who discovered the woman and children inside the tricycle.
“The Ozuoba Police Division patrol team swiftly moved to the scene where officers found the lifeless body of a woman and two children aged about five years and six months,” police said.
Authorities said efforts are ongoing to locate and arrest the suspect.
