The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has asserted that unseating President Bola Ahmed Tinubu in the next election will be easier than the All Progressives Congress (APC) securing victory over former President Goodluck Jonathan in the 2015 polls.
In a statement issued on Monday, the ADC claimed that the political dynamics and growing public dissatisfaction with the APC’s performance have weakened the ruling party’s hold on power. The party said that widespread concerns over economic hardship, insecurity, and governance failures have eroded popular support for the APC, making its re-election bid more challenging.
According to the ADC leadership, the APC’s 2015 victory against President Jonathan was a “historic and formidable achievement,” driven by broad national momentum for change. The party argued that defeating an incumbent such as Tinubu, whose administration has struggled with rising costs of living and other policy criticisms, will be “comparatively easier” given the current public sentiment.
“The APC’s success in 2015 was remarkable, but the situation today is very different. Nigerians are frustrated, disillusioned, and demanding accountability. Any opposition that can effectively harness this sentiment stands a strong chance of defeating the ruling party,” the statement read.
The ADC urged members of the public and other opposition parties to unite and present credible alternatives that resonate with the aspirations of ordinary Nigerians. It emphasized the need for a collective approach to ensure that democratic choice prevails at the polls.
Meanwhile, analysts say the 2027 election is shaping up to be highly competitive, with both the APC and opposition parties gearing up for rigorous campaigns. The ADC’s comments add to the growing discourse on political change and electoral challenges in Nigeria.
