The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), Delta State Command, has reported significant progress in the fight against drug trafficking and abuse, seizing narcotics worth N3 billion and securing 226 convictions over the past year.
According to the State Commander, the agency intensified operations across the state’s major towns and border communities, targeting drug cartels, dealers, and transporters. The seizures included large quantities of hard drugs such as heroin, cocaine, methamphetamine, cannabis, and other controlled substances. These interceptions were made at strategic locations, including checkpoints, markets, and suspected hideouts.
The NDLEA noted that the N3 billion valuation reflects the estimated street value of the narcotics confiscated during multiple joint operations with security partners. Key suspects were arrested during raids, surveillance exercises, and routine patrols.
In addition to the seizures, the Delta Command achieved 226 successful convictions in various courts within the state. These convictions resulted from thorough investigations, careful evidence gathering, and effective prosecution of indicted offenders. Convicts received varying jail terms and fines, highlighting the agency’s commitment to enforcing the law and deterring drug-related crimes.
The NDLEA also stressed the importance of community involvement, urging residents to report suspicious activities and collaborate with law enforcement. The commander reiterated the agency’s focus on both enforcement and rehabilitation, noting that efforts to educate the public on the dangers of drug abuse would continue.
Delta State government officials commended the NDLEA’s achievements and pledged ongoing support to strengthen anti‑drug campaigns, emphasizing that a drug‑free society remains a top priority.
