Former Minister of Information and Culture, Lai Mohammed, has called on Nigerians to rally behind President Bola Ahmed Tinubu in his administration’s ongoing efforts to tackle insecurity across the country. Speaking at a public engagement in Abuja, Mohammed emphasized that national unity and public support are crucial in confronting the nation’s security challenges.
He noted that while the government has continued to make strategic moves to curb terrorism, banditry, and other violent crimes, progress can only be achieved if citizens actively support these efforts instead of criticizing every step taken. According to him, the fight against insecurity is not just the responsibility of the government alone but a shared duty that requires collaboration between citizens, communities, and security agencies.
Mohammed also pointed out that the Tinubu-led administration has shown strong commitment by investing in security infrastructure, reforming the armed forces, and enhancing intelligence gathering. He urged Nigerians to be patient and optimistic, stating that long-standing security issues cannot be solved overnight.
He acknowledged the sacrifices of the nation’s security personnel and encouraged the media to promote stories that inspire public confidence rather than fear. “We need a united front. Security is everyone’s business,” he said.
Mohammed further cautioned political actors and critics against using insecurity as a tool for political gain, stating that doing so undermines national interest.
He concluded by urging religious and traditional leaders, civil society groups, and ordinary citizens to play active roles in building a safer and more stable Nigeria under the current administration.
