The Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), Senator George Akume, has emphasized the importance of the Southeast region in President Bola Tinubu’s potential bid for reelection in 2027. Akume made this statement during a political engagement where he called on stakeholders in the region to support the administration’s efforts toward national development and stability.
According to Akume, the Southeast holds a vital position in Nigeria’s political structure and cannot be ignored in any national conversation, especially concerning electoral success. He said the support of the region will be instrumental to the president’s continued reforms and the Renewed Hope Agenda, which aims to improve infrastructure, create jobs, and boost the economy.
Akume highlighted ongoing federal projects in the Southeast and assured citizens that the Tinubu administration remains committed to ensuring equitable development across all regions. He urged the political elite in the zone to work closely with the federal government for the benefit of their people.
The SGF also addressed concerns of marginalization often raised by Southeast leaders, stating that the government is open to dialogue and inclusion, and has already appointed several individuals from the region to key positions.
He concluded by appealing to political leaders, traditional rulers, and youth groups in the Southeast to key into the president’s vision and give their full backing in the coming years.
The meeting drew the attention of several political observers, with analysts seeing it as part of early strategic moves ahead of the 2027 general elections.
