Obi Demands Investigation into Suspected Arms Supply to Terrorists by Government Officials

Labour Party presidential candidate in the 2023 general election, Peter Obi, has called for a thorough investigation into allegations that some government officials are involved in supplying arms to terrorists in Nigeria.

Obi made the call while reacting to recent reports suggesting that weapons meant for the country’s security agencies may have been diverted to criminal groups. He described the claims as alarming and urged the federal government to treat the matter with urgency and transparency.

According to him, such allegations—if true—pose a grave threat to national security and could undermine ongoing efforts to combat terrorism, banditry, and insurgency across the country. He stressed that any official found to be aiding or collaborating with terrorists must be exposed and prosecuted, regardless of their status.

Obi further called on the National Assembly and relevant security agencies to launch an independent and credible investigation to uncover the truth and restore public confidence in the government’s commitment to national security.

He emphasized that Nigeria cannot win the war against terror if those in charge of protecting citizens are allegedly enabling the same threats they are meant to fight. He also urged civil society groups, the media, and the international community to remain alert and push for accountability.

“The safety of Nigerians must come first,” Obi said. “We must cleanse the system of all bad actors and ensure that those who betray their oath to the nation are brought to justice swiftly.”
