2027: Uzodinma visits Otti, says S’East govs will support Tinubu

Imo State Governor, Hope Uzodinma, on Thursday visited Abia State Governor, Alex Otti, in Umuahia and expressed optimism that all South-East governors will support President Bola Tinubu’s re-election bid in 2027.

Speaking after a closed-door meeting at the Abia Government House, Uzodinma, who also chairs the Progressives Governors’ Forum, said the visit was part of efforts to build stronger regional cooperation and national unity. He noted that politics should not divide leaders from working together for development, regardless of party differences.

“I came here to see my brother. It’s important for us as governors from the South-East to cooperate for the good of our people. We also believe President Tinubu means well for the region and the country,” he said.

The governor added that the region must remain united to attract more federal support and development. Uzodinma said Tinubu’s administration had shown commitment to infrastructure and economic growth, which South-East states can benefit from with stronger collaboration.

Governor Otti, while receiving Uzodinma, welcomed the visit and said dialogue among leaders was vital for national development. Though Otti belongs to the Labour Party, he agreed that the region must push for collective interests above politics.

The meeting comes amid political realignments ahead of the 2027 general elections. Uzodinma’s remarks are seen as part of ongoing efforts by the ruling All Progressives Congress to strengthen its base in the South-East, where opposition parties made significant gains in 2023.
