Senator Ireti Kingibe has dismissed claims that Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, could influence her chances in the 2027 elections. Speaking in Abuja, Kingibe said Wike poses no threat to her political future and cannot determine her return to the Senate.
She stated that her focus remains on serving the people of the FCT and that her performance will speak louder than political games. “Wike cannot decide if I return or not. That decision belongs to the residents of the FCT,” she said.
Kingibe, who won her seat on the platform of the Labour Party in 2023, noted that she’s not distracted by political intimidation. She added that her priorities include security, infrastructure, and improving residents’ welfare. “My loyalty is to the people. I was elected to serve, not to fear political figures,” she said.
She also expressed confidence that voters would judge her based on her record, not political alliances. “If I perform, the people will decide,” she added.
On the recent political movements in the FCT, Kingibe said residents are watching closely and will respond accordingly at the polls. She also urged politicians to focus on governance rather than power plays.
She maintained that Wike’s influence, while strong in some quarters, won’t overshadow the voices of FCT voters. “I trust the people. They will not be swayed by fear or pressure,” she said.
Kingibe promised to remain committed to her duties and continue speaking up on issues affecting her constituents.
