SERAP sues Adelabu, NBET over alleged missing N128b in power ministry

The Socio-Economic Rights and Accountability Project (SERAP) has filed a lawsuit against Power Minister Adebayo Adelabu and the Nigerian Bulk Electricity Trading Plc (NBET) over an alleged missing N128 billion in the Ministry of Power.

In a statement on Monday, SERAP said the funds were unaccounted for and demanded that the minister and NBET provide a full explanation for the missing money. The organisation accused the officials of failing to ensure transparency and accountability in the disbursement of public funds.

SERAP urged the courts to compel the Ministry of Power and NBET to release details of all payments made under government-approved power projects, including the recipients, amounts disbursed, and supporting documents.

“The public has a right to know how their resources are being managed, especially in critical sectors such as electricity,” SERAP said. “Failure to account for billions of naira raises serious concerns about mismanagement and possible corruption.”

The organisation also called on the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission and other relevant anti-graft agencies to investigate the matter and take appropriate action against those found culpable.

Efforts to reach the Ministry of Power and NBET for comment were unsuccessful as of the time of filing this report.
