ADC Demands Clarity from Tinubu on Alleged US Airstrikes in Nigeria

The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has criticised President Bola Tinubu’s silence over alleged United States airstrikes on terrorist hideouts in Nigeria, demanding transparency and an official report on casualties.

In a statement released, the party said Nigerians deserve to know the truth about the reported strikes and any resulting civilian or military casualties. ADC faulted the government for failing to inform citizens before or after such foreign military involvement.

“Our sovereignty must not be compromised,” the party said. “If these airstrikes happened, the Nigerian people should know who authorised them, the targets involved, and the outcomes. Silence from the presidency is unacceptable.”

The ADC also accused the Tinubu administration of lacking accountability in matters of national security, warning that secrecy only fuels public fear and misinformation.

Recent claims surfaced after former U.S. President Donald Trump reportedly said the U.S. launched deadly strikes on terrorist targets in Nigeria. The comments, made during a campaign speech, sparked confusion and concern across northern communities.

Though the Nigerian military has not confirmed any recent joint operations with the U.S., the ADC insists the government must provide clarity.

“Foreign involvement in our security affairs should be a matter of national discussion, not hidden decisions,” the statement added.

The party urged the National Assembly to summon relevant officials and demand a detailed report. It also called on civil society organisations to press for transparency.

Nigerians, the ADC concluded, deserve protection, truth, and respect for their democratic rights.
