General Overseer of the Redeemed Christian Church of God, Pastor Enoch Adeboye, has said that God’s mercy protected British-Nigerian boxer Anthony Joshua during his recent car accident in Ogun State.
Speaking during the church’s New Year service, Adeboye described the incident as a reminder of divine intervention in times of danger. He praised God for sparing Joshua’s life, noting that the boxer could have sustained more serious injuries or even died. “It was the mercy of God that preserved him,” he said.
Anthony Joshua was involved in a car crash on the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway on December 31, 2025. He suffered a leg fracture and is currently recuperating, according to reports from the Ogun State Government. His driver, who was behind the wheel at the time, faces possible prosecution for reckless driving and manslaughter following the death of a motorcyclist in the crash.
Adeboye used Joshua’s experience to emphasize the importance of seeking God’s protection and grace. He encouraged Nigerians to enter the new year with gratitude and to rely more on faith than fear. “No matter who you are—famous or unknown—we all need God’s mercy to survive the challenges of life,” he told worshippers.
The Ogun State Government earlier confirmed that Joshua was stable and receiving proper care. Fans and well-wishers across the country have continued to send prayers and support to the former heavyweight champion.
Adeboye concluded by praying for the nation, asking for peace, protection, and mercy for all Nigerians in 2026.
