Ajadi to Tinubu: Nigerians, not incumbency, will decide 2027 leadership

A former presidential candidate of the National Rescue Movement, Usman Ibrahim Alhaji Ajadi, has said Nigerians will decide who leads the country in 2027, not the power of incumbency. He made the statement while reacting to recent comments suggesting that President Bola Tinubu’s position gives him an advantage ahead of the next general election.

Ajadi said democracy empowers the people to choose their leaders through the ballot box, and no amount of influence or incumbency can override the will of the people if they seek change. He urged President Tinubu to focus on fulfilling his promises rather than depending on political advantages to retain power.

He stressed that the suffering in the country is deep and widespread, and citizens are growing impatient with economic hardship, insecurity, and poor governance. “By 2027, Nigerians will vote based on performance, not party or power,” he said.

Ajadi also warned political parties against manipulating institutions or undermining democratic principles. He noted that the 2023 elections showed that voters are becoming more aware and active in shaping outcomes.

He called for a more transparent and accountable government, adding that only real development can secure support in the next election. “The power belongs to the people, and they will use it,” he concluded.

Ajadi advised all presidential hopefuls, including Tinubu, to prepare for a contest based on merit and performance, not assumption of guaranteed victory through incumbency.
