The All Progressives Congress (APC) has announced plans to hold its national convention in March 2026, party leaders said on Tuesday. The party’s National Working Committee (NWC) disclosed the schedule during a meeting in Abuja as it continues preparations ahead of the 2027 general elections.
According to the party’s national publicity secretary, the convention will bring together delegates from across the country to elect national officers and review strategic plans. The decision reflects the party’s effort to strengthen its organisational structure and ensure wider participation from members at all levels.
Speaking with journalists, a senior APC official said the NWC agreed on the timeline after consultations with state executives and key stakeholders. “We want a transparent and credible process. March 2026 gives us enough time to prepare thoroughly,” the official said.
The convention will also provide a platform for the party to adopt resolutions and address internal issues. Leaders said they plan to harmonise positions and foster unity within the party ahead of the next election cycle.
State chapters have been instructed to begin preparations and submit names of delegates to the national secretariat ahead of the event. Party officials say they aim to complete all logistical arrangements well before the convention date to avoid last‑minute challenges.
The APC’s decision follows widespread calls from members for a clear roadmap on leadership renewal and organisational reforms. Many party leaders believe the convention will help strengthen the party and boost its chances in future polls.
Meanwhile, critics have urged the party to ensure inclusiveness and fairness in the lead‑up to the convention. They argue that internal democracy and transparent conduct will help the APC maintain its appeal among voters nationwide. Members across the country are now waiting for further details on delegates’ lists and the official convention agenda.
