Dangote reaffirms capacity to supply 75 million litres of petrol daily

The Dangote Petroleum Refinery has reaffirmed its ability to supply fuel volumes well above Nigeria’s estimated domestic demand, saying it can deliver 75 million litres of Premium Motor Spirit daily.

In a statement issued Thursday, the refinery said Nigeria’s daily petrol consumption is estimated at about 50 million litres, meaning its output provides a significant supply buffer.

The company said it can also supply 25 million litres of Automotive Gas Oil daily, compared with an estimated national demand of 14 million litres, as well as 20 million litres of aviation fuel per day, far exceeding the estimated maximum domestic consumption of four million litres.

According to the refinery, producing volumes above prevailing demand enhances market stability, strengthens inventory cover and reduces reliance on fuel imports, particularly during periods of peak demand or logistical disruptions.

“The management of Dangote Petroleum Refinery would like to reiterate our capability to supply the underlisted petroleum products of the highest international quality standards to marketers and stakeholders: 75 million litres of Premium Motor Spirit, 25 million litres of Automotive Gas Oil and 20 million litres of aviation fuel daily,” the company said.

It said supplying above estimated consumption levels helps limit emergency imports and improves the resilience of Nigeria’s domestic fuel supply chain.

The refinery also reaffirmed its commitment to full regulatory compliance and continued cooperation with the Nigerian Midstream and Downstream Petroleum Regulatory Authority, noting that its supply strategy aligns with efforts to ensure market stability and orderly downstream operations.

Dangote said it remains engaged with regulators and industry stakeholders in support of Nigeria’s energy security objectives as the country deepens its transition from fuel import dependence to domestic refining.

The company added that it is working with market participants to ensure that the benefits of local refining, including reliable supply, competitive pricing and improved market discipline, are delivered consistently to consumers.

“With domestic refining capacity expanding, stakeholders believe Nigeria is increasingly positioned to reduce foreign exchange exposure, improve supply security and strengthen downstream efficiency through locally refined petroleum products,” the statement said.

On Monday, the refinery announced an increase in its gantry price of petrol to N799 per litre from N699 per litre. The new price places Dangote’s gantry price about N70 above the landing cost of imported petrol.

Following the increase, the refinery said MRS filling stations should sell petrol at N839 per litre. Checks showed that many filling stations raised pump prices from N739 to N839 or higher.

Marketers who had completed payment and processed final loading slips at N699 per litre were later asked to pay the difference to N799 per litre before loading, after the refinery withdrew its temporary festive price support and invalidated previously issued loading authorisations.
