The Arewa community in Delta State has expressed concern over worsening living conditions in Nigeria and urged the federal government to take urgent steps to address economic hardship and insecurity.
Speaking Thursday in Asaba, Mukhtar Usman, deputy secretary of the Arewa Communities in Delta State and senior special assistant to Governor Sheriff Oborevwori on Hausa/Fulani affairs, said current economic realities had become unbearable for many Nigerians.
Usman warned that the country was drifting toward deeper crisis and urged President Bola Tinubu to intensify efforts to address economic and security challenges.
“Beyond economic reforms, Nigeria’s leaders must embrace sincerity, accountability and the fear of God if the nation must overcome its numerous challenges,” he said.
He added that insecurity and killings across the country would persist unless leaders “surrender themselves to God and seek His forgiveness.”
“The killings in Nigeria will not stop until our leaders surrender themselves to God,” Usman said. “God is merciful and He will have mercy on us if we are sincere.”
Usman said Nigerians deserved honest leadership and urged political leaders to be transparent with citizens about the country’s challenges.
He said prayers alone would not resolve the nation’s problems if leaders and citizens continued to act dishonestly.
“You cannot deceive God,” he said. “If you are doing evil and expect God to answer your prayers, it will not happen.”
The Arewa leader also called for unity among Nigerians across religious and ethnic lines, urging citizens to pray for the country and its leaders.
He said constant criticism without constructive support could worsen national challenges and called on Muslims, Christians and traditional worshippers to seek divine intervention for peace, economic stability and national unity.
