Several foreign diplomats have praised the recent joint security operation between Nigeria and the United States targeting terrorist groups operating in parts of northern Nigeria. The coordinated airstrikes reportedly disrupted terrorist hideouts and supply routes, dealing a significant blow to their operations.
Envoys from the United Kingdom, Germany, and Canada expressed support for the collaboration. They described it as a strong step in countering growing terrorist threats in West Africa. The US Embassy also released a statement, highlighting the importance of international cooperation in combating terrorism and securing civilian populations.
The Nigerian Ministry of Foreign Affairs confirmed the operation and welcomed the diplomatic support. A senior ministry official said the joint effort reflects Nigeria’s commitment to regional stability and its readiness to work with allies to defeat terrorism. The Defence Headquarters also released a brief, noting that precision strikes were carried out in coordination with US intelligence to avoid civilian casualties.
Analysts see the operation as a potential turning point in Nigeria’s fight against insurgents and bandits, who have plagued the North for over a decade. They believe it shows a shift toward stronger international engagement in local security challenges.
However, some local groups called for transparency regarding the scope and impact of the strikes. They urged the government to provide updates on potential civilian harm and ensure that future operations respect national sovereignty.
Despite concerns, the international community appears largely supportive of the mission, viewing it as a necessary response to a shared security threat.
